Newsweek is now expanding its India operations and looking for a talented Data Analyst to join its growing remote team.


Role Overview

The Data Analyst will play a pivotal role in supporting Newsweek’s international city ranking methodology. This position involves handling diverse datasets, ensuring data accuracy, and producing analytical outputs that feed into editorial and research-driven projects.
You will work closely with global teams, including researchers, editors, and project managers, to maintain transparency, consistency, and data integrity.

This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy working with large datasets, coding analytical workflows, and delivering insights that influence global publications.


Key Responsibilities

Data Management & Transformation

  • Collect, import, clean, validate, and transform datasets (economic, environmental, demographic, survey-based, etc.).

  • Build and support data structures related to Newsweek’s ranking database.

  • Implement coding solutions (Python/R) to automate data processing and transformation.

Quality Assurance

  • Identify data quality issues, missing values, inconsistencies, and anomalies.

  • Enforce high standards of data accuracy across multiple geographies and sources.

  • Conduct validation checks and ensure the reliability of the ranking methodology.

Research & Analysis

  • Provide quantitative support to researchers and expert panels.

  • Analyse datasets to generate insights that support editorial storytelling and rankings.

  • Prepare visualisations, tables, and analytical summaries for reporting.

Documentation & Process Transparency

  • Maintain detailed documentation of data processes, methodologies, and workflows.

  • Ensure reproducibility and clear traceability for all data-related tasks.

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Research and R&R (Ranking & Research) teams.

  • Provide timely updates to the Project Manager on data findings, risks, and progress.

  • Collaborate with editorial teams to ensure accurate representation of data in publications.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in SQL, preferably with Postgres or similar databases.

  • Experience in Python, R, or other data science tools.

  • Ability to detect data inconsistencies and ensure data integrity.

  • Strong communication skills—especially the ability to explain insights to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience working with large structured/unstructured datasets.

  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote setup.
