Role Overview
BCforward is seeking an experienced and automation-driven Data Engineer – Database Engineering & Automation to join its technology delivery team in Gurugram.
In this senior role, you will play a pivotal part in engineering, automating, and supporting mission-critical database platforms across hybrid cloud and on-prem environments. You will design scalable database architectures, build robust CI/CD pipelines for schema deployments, optimise complex SQL queries, and collaborate closely with DevOps, Infrastructure, and Application engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Database Design & Architecture

Scalable Architecture: Design, implement, and maintain highly scalable, reliable, and secure database solutions across enterprise relational and non-relational platforms.

Data Modeling: Execute robust database design, schema structuring, and advanced data modeling for mission-critical applications.

Cloud & On-Prem Support: Architect, provision, and support enterprise database environments spanning both on-premises data centers and major cloud platforms (AWS and GCP).
Automation & CI/CD Pipelines

Deployment Automation: Build and support automated database CI/CD pipelines using modern tooling like GitHub Actions and Liquibase.

Schema Management: Automate schema deployments, migration scripts, and database administrative processes to eliminate manual bottlenecks and ensure zero-downtime releases.
Performance Tuning & Production Support

Query Optimization: Conduct advanced SQL performance tuning, index optimization, and bottleneck troubleshooting across high-volume transaction systems.

Production Reliability: Provide tier-1 production support, incident management, change management,and disaster recovery execution in an agile operating model (Jira, Kanban).
Candidate Qualifications & Requirements
Required Experience & Core Skills

Experience: 6+ years of progressive hands-on experience in database engineering, database administration, automation, or data engineering within enterprise environments.

Relational Databases: Deep expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle architecture, clustering, and performance tuning.

NoSQL Databases: Practical production experience with NoSQL platforms such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or Couchbase.

DevOps & Automation: Demonstrated proficiency in database automation, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Liquibase), and infrastructure-as-code concepts.

Cloud Platforms: Hands-on deployment experience across AWS and/or GCP cloud database services.

Methodologies: Strong working knowledge of Agile development frameworks, Jira, and Kanban project tracking.
