About the Opportunity

AECOM is expanding its rail and transit engineering team and is looking for a skilled professional to support the design, planning, and delivery of railway infrastructure projects. The Associate Director – Rail (Deputy Head) will be responsible for developing track alignment solutions, conducting technical assessments, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety requirements.

The role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and offers exposure to complex rail, metro, and transit infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

Railway Track Design

  • Develop detailed railway track layouts and engineering designs.
  • Design alignments considering operational requirements, curvature, gradients, and elevation.
  • Optimize track configurations for efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Ensure all designs meet project specifications and technical requirements.

Alignment Engineering and Route Studies

  • Conduct route assessments and alignment studies for rail and transit projects.
  • Analyse topographical, environmental, and geographical conditions.
  • Evaluate multiple alignment alternatives to identify the most effective solutions.
  • Support technical feasibility studies and infrastructure planning activities.

Engineering Analysis and Software Applications

  • Utilize OpenRail, Bentley software, AutoCAD, and other rail engineering tools.
  • Create engineering models and technical simulations.
  • Develop accurate design outputs for project execution.
  • Support digital engineering initiatives and advanced infrastructure design processes.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure railway designs comply with industry regulations and engineering standards.
  • Apply safety principles throughout project planning and design phases.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews and technical evaluations.
  • Stay updated with emerging rail technologies and industry best practices.

Technical Documentation

  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, specifications, drawings, and technical documents.
  • Coordinate with drafting and design teams to maintain documentation accuracy.
  • Review project deliverables before submission.
  • Support technical presentations and stakeholder discussions.

Project Coordination

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, planners, and technical consultants.
  • Integrate track and alignment designs into larger transportation projects.
  • Provide technical assistance during construction and implementation phases.
  • Resolve engineering challenges and contribute to successful project delivery.

Qualifications Required

Candidates applying for this role should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience in railway engineering projects.
  • Strong background in railway track design and alignment engineering.
  • Understanding of railway standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
